What do you want to know about us?
Do you have any questions about our clinic and the services we offer? Here you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) to help you learn more about our work and our goals.
What is the Poliklinik Frankfurt ?
We see ourselves as a community health centre based on solidarity. It is a place dedicated to creating as much space and as many services as possible to ensure a sustainable, healthy life for people in the neighbourhood. This is intended to include both primary medical care (e.g. general practice) and advisory services (e.g. psychological/psychosocial support, advice on tenancy law or residency, nutrition or exercise). Furthermore, the neighbourhood health centre aims to be a point of contact for people in the neighbourhood and to provide a space for networking and exchange, for example in the form of a café or as a venue for events.
What does ‘in solidarity’ mean?
For us, solidarity means that anyone who wishes to can come to us. Together, we try to find out what they need and how they can achieve it – either on their own or with the help of others. It doesn’t matter what language the person speaks, where they come from, what they look like, what they can or cannot do, what religion they follow, what their sexual orientation is, or what their income is. We want to be a place for everyone.
Does the Poliklinik Frankfurt have anything to do with hospital polyclinics?
No. We are an association that operates independently of any hospital or sponsoring body, and aims to create a place that brings people together and promotes their health. The term ‘Poliklinik’ originally referred to facilities that provide outpatient care and bring together various specialist disciplines under one roof. That is also our vision. In addition, we want to create a space for people to meet, where they can help themselves and one another.
Will it cost me anything?
No. Taking part in our programme is free of charge.
It is important to us that everyone can take part – regardless of their financial situation.
At the same time, however, we rely on donations and would be delighted if people who support our initiative would like to make a donation or become a supporting member. You can find details on how to do this on our website.
Who works at the poliklinik?
So far, we have all been working on a voluntary basis without pay. We have people from various disciplines with different perspectives. For example, there are psychologists, doctors, people from the nursing and emergency services, and osteopaths. This helps us to look at health from a variety of angles.
Who can take advantage of this offer?
Everyone from the neighbourhood and surrounding area is welcome. It doesn’t matter whether you have statutory, private or no health insurance at all.
What services do you currently offer?
We currently run a health café once a month. The latest dates can always be found here on the website. We want to use these sessions to chat with people from Riederwald and find out what needs and wishes there are in the neighbourhood. Based on this, we would like to gradually expand our services.
For example, we could offer talks on topics such as caring for relatives, depression, pregnancy, etc., or courses on back pain or first aid for children. We are open to suggestions. Going forward, we would like to establish regular sessions and a variety of services – to complement the existing services in Riederwald.
how is the Poliklinik funded?
The Poliklinik is currently funded through donations, (supporting) memberships and grants. We are therefore always grateful for donations, new supporting members, or tips on where we can apply for grants. You can find our contact details and information on how to donate or become a supporting member on our website.
Are the rooms you use accessible?
It depends. The neighbourhood office in Riederwald is accessible via a ramp and has a ground-level toilet. However, this is not fully equipped for accessibility (e.g. it lacks grab rails). The place where we currently meet is only accessible via stairs, as the lift is not working. However, we can change the venue depending on what is needed. In general, please feel free to write to us if you’d like to take advantage of this offer or join the group; we’ll look together at what’s required and try to make it happen.
How can I get involved?
If you’re interested in joining us, please get in touch. You can do so via the contact form, by email or on Instagram. We’ll then get back to you to explain the process and let you know whether we’re currently accepting new members.
